“SELF CARE” ISN’T JUST A CATCHY BUZZ WORD…

It’s necessary to your well-being as a woman. No matter what your superhero duties are for the day, who you’re taking care of, or how much time you feel like you have in the day - i’m here with a little reminder:

you have to give some of your love to yourself, darling.

Think of it this way: You can’t give 100% of yourself at work, to your kids, or in your relationship, if you don’t have 100% of yourself to give.

You’re the most important person to so many people, and you deserve to feel just as important as you’re always going out of your way to make everyone else feel.

I don’t know a woman who could say ‘no’ to a vacation, luxurious weekend at the spa, or a shopping spree. That said, just like with any other relationship, it’s about more than the grandeur of big, lavish gestures. It’s in the small ways we show love that we foster a truly remarkable, sustainable impact. So while I’m all for you pulling out all the stops & renting out the honeymoon suite for yourself (have a drink for me, girl!) here are some of my favorite tips for self care - on the simpler, fun & affordable/sustainable side - to shamelessly treat yourself on any day of the week!

TREAT YOURSELF TO REGULAR HOME ‘SPA QUICKIES’

I know we all LOVE a good spa getaway - and sure, it would be nice to spend every day at home in the perfectly drawn bubble bath, rosé in hand and your favorite record on repeat…but in between our luxurious getaways, it doesn’t have to be all-or-nothing! Try switching it up & give yourself a spa moment every day.

Seriously! It doesn’t take long to feel pampered. Refreshing Masks on Monday, break out the home pedi kit for Toenails Tuesday (okay, it might be a little corny, but you get the idea!) Just keeping one fave beauty item in sight, on hand and accessible, can be a great reminder to turn your home into a spa for a self care ‘quickie.’ The bottom line is this:

Pampering yourself doesn’t have to be expensive or a time suck.

SCHEDULE A DAILY 10-20 MINUTE MEDITATION.

You might not have the time to get to the gym every morning or make the most of that unlimited monthly yoga pass the way you want to…after all, you’ve got things to do, goals to accomplish, tiny humans relying on you, etc. Doing one meditation a day is a self care quickie unquestionably worth setting aside time for!

After all, meditation is a simple & proven way to reduce stress, improve your emotional control, regulate mom-duty overstimulation, and improve your restorative sleep (goodbye, annoying under-eye circles and hello00, beauty rest)!

Free apps like Headspace, Insight Timer, Calm (that’s just a few) are made just for this. There are podcasts and sound baths, and when all else fails YouTube is FULL of free meditation videos that can help you find a mindful moment in the middle of a crazy day.

Freshen up your space.

The scents in your environment can totally start your day right or throw your whole energy off balance. Whether you’re a boujee boutique kinda babe, or more of a one-click-shop-from-home girly like me (I literally just ordered fresh essential oils from Amazon with spaghetti on the stove), it can make a big difference in how you embody your divine feminine.

If you love a project and prefer to curate your own scents, you can head to the health food store to sniff a few essential oils until you find your favorite. Add 1 tablespoon of vodka, 6 tablespoons of filtered water, and 30 drops of your essential oil to a simple spray bottle, shake it up, and give your space a spray. 

Your mind, body, and nose will thank me later.

TReat yo’self: Take that personal day!

Yes, you. Do yourself a huge favor, play a little hooky, and take a well-deserved day to yourself.

Those sick days you’ve been saving for the perfect rainy day? They’re part of your salary—you’re entitled to them (plus, if you’re waiting for rain in southern CA, it could be minute), so take a day every now and again to turn off your alarm, sleep in, give yourself a real, honest, true day off to do whatever you want. for you.

Maybe that means treating yourself to the nice coffee this morning, to run some personal errands you’ve been putting off for too long. Maybe you take a day to do a little shopping - hellooo, retail therapy. Maybe you snuggle your pup, eating chips ‘n guac and catching up on The Good Place all afternoon. Maybe you’ve finally set aside a day to be fully pampered & in your divine feminine with a luxurious boudoir session…

However you choose to spend your personal day, make sure it’s all about rewarding yourself for everything you do for everyone around you. Filling your own cup with positive energy -it’s Good Vibes Only.

There are no bonus points for being superwoman.

As women, it’s no mystery we’re socialized & encouraged to give all of ourselves to other people, until we have nothing left for ourselves.
We’re told to lean in and hit the hashtag ‘boss bitch struggle.’ We never shut off, because sometimes, we can’t afford to.
Or we feel so guilty that we just keep pushing because we “should.” What we don’t see when we’re caught in an unsustainable cycle is that when we don’t fill our own cups (instead of waiting for someone else to do it), we just end up running ourselves ragged, taking away from our ability to love others - not to mention it can be a huge blow to your mental health and inter-personal relationships across the board. The truth is:

Self care and Self Love are truly some of the most important things you can give to yourself, and they are so clearly within your reach.
